I watched that exact scene unfold more times than I can count, because I was the man behind the table. This pitch was done by many others over the years — names like Eddie Fields, The HooDoo Lady, Sir Edwards and Connie, Gene Featherstone, and many others flew under the radar and made a living giving people what they wanted… mystery and curiosity. Eddie Fields, after his partner George Martel passed, stripped his act down to something clean, low-profile, and reliably profitable — built for five-and-dime counters and department store floors. He worked the shopping malls and vendor events with his one-person astrology pitch.
I picked up the pitching trade in the early 1970s working at Cleveland’s Higbee department store, alongside the very successful Madam Grace and Damon, and I’ve spent very nearly fifty years since refining it on fairgrounds and flea market lots across the country. Back in the day I even worked in shopping malls for major companies like Jacobs – Vasconi – Jacobs. Although I’ve done many other things related to the entertainment business, I’m always drawn back to pitching. The Eddie Fields Method is the first time I’ve put that entire system down on paper.

My name is Dr. Rick Allen.
